Uses of the present perfect tense

Duration From the Past Until Now (Non-Continuous Verbs)

We use the Present Perfect to show that 
something started in the past and has continued up until now. 

"For ten minutes," 
"for five weeks," and 
"since Monday" are all durations which can be used with the Present Perfect.

• I have had a cold for two weeks.
• He has been in Japan for six months.
• Maria has loved chocolate since she was a little girl.

Compare:

• I was so busy.

When you use the simple past though it means that that state is definitely over.
I was quite busy these past few days= now I am not busy

Past：busy
Right now：NOT busy

• I have been so busy.

Past：busy
Right now：busy

完了形 をマスターするシリーズ　第一回　

現在完了は
「have + 過去分詞」の形で、

• 「動作の完了」
• 「現在までの経験」
• 「現在までの状態の継続」

などを表す。

現在完了（継続）

「ずっと～している」と訳し、
昔から今までずっと何かが継続し続けていることを表現するときに使う。

現在進行形との違い

現在進行形が「今現在動作中であること」を表すのに対し、
現在完了は 「昔からの継続中」を表す。



[現在進行形]

• I am studying English now.
• 私は今英語を勉強しています。

[現在完了：継続]

• I have studied English.
• 私は英語を勉強してきました。（過去から今まで）

過去のある一定時に『忙しかった』

• I have been so busy

過去から現在に至るまで忙しかった。
