What are transitions and how are they used?

• transitions are phrases or words used to connect one idea to the next
• transitions are used by the author to help the reader progress from one significant idea to the next

論旨の流れを明確にするための言葉を「つなぎ言葉」「転換語」と言います。
英語の品詞でいうと副詞が多いですが、
複数の単語を並べたイディオム（慣用句）もあります。
