ジャン＝リュック・ゴダール とは、

フランス・スイスの映画監督、編集技師、映画プロデューサー、映画批評家、撮影監督、俳優である。ヌーヴェルヴァーグを代表する作品、『勝手にしやがれ』や、『気狂いピエロ』を生み出した。

ヌーヴェルヴァーグ とは、

1950年代末に始まったフランスにおける、「新しい波」を意味する映画運動。

画面の連続性を無視してショットを繋ぎ合わせるジャンプカットを大々的に取り入れる事、高感度フィルムの利用、即興演出、同時録音、手持ちカメラでの街頭撮影ロケ中心、隠し撮り、唐突なクローズアップ、様々な作品からの引用など、これまでの映画の既成概念をひっくり返し、映画の文法を壊したような形式が、共通した手法として用いられる。

ジャンプカットの例

コーヒーを飲み終えて立ち上がるシーンを例に取ると、
通常の場合なら以下の通りになる。

2 口元に運ぶ

3 コーヒーを飲み干す

4 コーヒーカップを置く

5 立ち上がる

普通ならば以上の通りに、順序を追って動作の繋がりが分かるように編集・撮影するが、ジャンプカットを用いると以下の通りになる。

この様に、最低限度の関連性を残しただけで、飛び飛びの画面が構成されることになる。勿論、上の例は単なる一例に過ぎない。コーヒーカップを手に取った後、いきなり立ち上がるシーンに繋げるケース等もあり、繋ぎ方や、映像のずれ具合には各映像作家の個性が反映される。

『気狂いピエロ』 あらすじ

「ピエロ」と呼ばれるフェルディナンは、不幸な結婚をしていた。「退屈な生活から逃げ出したい」衝動に駆られていたフェルディナンは、ふと出会った昔の愛人であるマリアンヌと共に逃避行を始める。

ギャングに追われながらもフェルディナンは充実した生活を過ごすが、そんな彼に嫌気がさしたマリアンヌは、ギャングと通じてフェルディナンを裏切る。ラストシーンでフェルディナンは顔にペンキを塗り、さらにはダイナマイトまで顔に巻きつけ、火を点けてみる。我に返ったフェルディナンは火を消そうとするが、間に合わずに爆死する。
