MARK COLVIN: Out with the old, in with the new. From Monday, the hard copy editions of the Sydney Morning Herald and The Age will be delivered in a smaller format. Some are calling it tabloid. The publisher Fairfax prefers compact.
It's an attempt to cut costs in an increasing competitive media sector.
Andrea Carson is a PhD researcher at the Melbourne University. She's spent the past three years looking at the future of broadsheet newspapers and investigative journalism.
