English grammatical rules

Should is a modal auxiliary verb.
Should is followed by an infinitive without to.  

Questions and negatives are made without do.
  • Should I go now?
  • No, you should not.

Uses

- To express obligation
Should is often used to talk about duty or obligation
It can also be used to say or ask what the correct or best thing to do is.

  • You should tell the truth.
  • If you are not feeling well, you should consult a doctor.
  • There should be an investigation into the cause of the accident.

In questions, should is used to ask for advice or instructions.
  • It is rather cold here. Should I turn the heating on?
  • What should we do now?
  • Should I seek his opinion?
  • Should we talk to him?

- To express probability
Should can express logical probability.

  • You should find this grammar book helpful.
  • He should be here soon he left home at six.
  • I should be able to beat him.
  • Mount Everest should be visible from Tiger Hill if the sky is clear.

Should, ought and must

Should and ought have similar meanings. 
They are both used to talk about obligation, 
and to give advice or instructions.

  • We should respect our parents.
  • We ought to respect our parents.
  • You should stop smoking.
  • You ought to stop smoking.

Must is stronger than should and ought.
  • You must stop smoking. (A command.)
  • You should/ought to stop smoking. (A piece of advice.)

Must expresses certainty. Should/ought to expresses probability.
  • He must be home now. (It is certain.)
  • He should be home now. (It is probable.)

「~するほうがよい」
という助言の意味をつけ加えることのできる助動詞です。
  • You should remember you are a Kennedy.
  • お前はケネディ家の1人であることを忘れてはならない。
  • You should see a specialist.
  • あなたは専門家の診察を受けたほうがいい。

否定形は should not。
意味は
「~すべきではない」
「~しないほいがいい」
となります。
  • Girls should not stay out late at night.
  • He shouldn't speak so loudly.

「~すべきですか」と質問したいときには
 should を文の先頭に出します。

疑問詞を使った疑問文の場合には
「疑問詞 + should + 主語 + 動詞の原形 ~ ?」
の順序にします。
  • Where should I put this pot?
  • Should I mail the letter at once?
  • この手紙はすぐ出さないといけませんか。
